Abstract

Cyclone separator, for removing particles or droplets from a gas, is fitted with a partial obstruction in the gas outlet. The obstruction has a specific profile and isolates, from the external air, the central zone of the body of the cyclone, which is at a press. below atmospheric, and its extension into the outlet. The outlet has a convergent-divergent form. Vibrations which originate in the outlet, are suppressed, where low frequency pulsations (1-5 cycles/s) are propagated upstream and downstream of the appts. causing the whole structure to vibrate. There is an axial zone in the outlet which is at low press., connecting the low press. zone in the separator body with the outer air. The outer air is drawn in and mixes with the peripheral gas stream moving axially and rotating about the axis. This entry is not continuous, but pulsatory, causing the vibrations. The obstruction prevents the vibrations by filling the axial zone so that the gas can only flow downstream.
