Abstract

948,103. Centrifugal separators. SIEMENSSCHUCKERTWERKE A.G. Nov. 2, 1961 [Nov. 2, 1960 (3)], No. 39341/61. Heading B2P. A separator for removing dust and liquid particles from crude gas comprises a chamber 1, a substantially coaxial, smaller diameter inlet tube 2 for the crude gas, an outlet 14 for the cleaned gas opposite the tube 2 and a group 5, 6 or 7 of nozzles each having a rectangular opening into the chamber for injecting an auxiliary gas stream so as to create a flow thereof in an annular region adjacent the inner surface of the chamber, the flow having an angular velocity component and an axial velocity component which latter component is opposite to the direction of flow of the crude gas. The movement of the auxiliary gas down the chamber 1 causes rotation of the flow of crude gas in the manner described in Specification 933,224 whereby the dust and liquid particles are separated and conveyed into a space 12 from which they are discharged through a duct 13. A tear-shaped body 4 is disposed in the path of the crude gas at the flared mouth 3 of the tube 2. A similar body 9 having a recess 10 in its lower surface is disposed in the outlet 14 to prevent entrainment of particles axially of the chamber. A constriction 8 to deflect any upward stream of auxiliary gas downwards and to stabilize the flow in the chamber 1 is provided at the outlet and is preferably streamlined in the form of a plane, an inclined ring, a diaphragm or a ring having an aerofoil section. The auxiliary gas stream is fed to each nozzle group by way of a box structure surrounding each group which may be situated, as shown, in a plane at right angles to the chamber axis. Alternatively, the nozzle groups may be arranged on one or more helical paths. The nozzles are obliquely and tangentially inclined to the chamber wall and may be provided with internal rough surfaces to generate turbulence.
