Abstract

The double-glazed circular ceiling window has a rotatable lower pane and may be pivoted as a unit about a horizontal diameter. The unit is of the double filter polarizing type, and may be orientated to optimise lighting conditions. Each pane comprises a bonded arrangement of two glass sheets (2, 3) sandwiching a polarizing membrane (1). The lower pane is mounted in a recess rimmed (7a) barrel frame (7) which is turn mounted on ball-bearings (9, 10) on the main barrel frame (6, 8). The main frame may have diametrically opposed stub axles (14) which are mounted on bearing blocks (15). The bearing blocks may be set in the roof substructure (13). The lower pane may be rotated about its major axis by a spindle driven friction roller (12) engaging a friction strip (11).
