Abstract

Fibre reinforced plastics mouldings are produced by prepg. a laminate of a thermosetting resin impregnated foam sheet(s) and a fibrous (non)woven sheet(s) (e.g., glass fibres); placing the laminate into a mould; compressing the laminate to transfer the resin into the fibrous sheet; and while maintaining the compression heating to polymerise the resin. The improvement consists in first lining the mould surface with thermoplastic protection sheet before the compression step, the sheet being polyurethane, PVC or a mixt. of PVC and ABS terpolymer. The protection sheet prevents degradation of the moulding surface due to wear and can also determine the appearance of the moulding e.g., a coloured, glossy, mat or grained surface may be obtd. according to the nature of the sheet. A mould release agent is not required.
