Abstract
The electronic ignition circuit, for an internal combustion engine in a motor vehicle, has a switch (3) shunting the primary winding (1) of the ignition transformer, and a chopper (4) in series with the primary across the battery terminals. Both switch and chopper are controlled (8) in accordance with signals denoting piston position. The control circuit (8) closes the switch and opens the chopper when the current in the primary reaches a maximum value, and opens the switch and closes the chopper when it reaches a minimum value. The ignition discharge is initiated by opening both switch and chopper simultaneously.
