Abstract

Prodn. of manure from bird dung, partic. the droppings of battery hens. Powdered quick lime, opt. with artificial fertiliser, is pneumatically conveyed into a mixing hopper which receives the bird dung. Pulsing air escaping at the conveyor discharge is used to dry the mixt. A powdered mineral, e.g. MgO ore, with fertiliser, is pref. also conveyed pneumatically into the mixing hopper. The quicklime is pref. dosed with a superphosphate and the powdered magnesium oxide is pref. dosed with K2SO4. Pref. the plant is mobile. All constituents are delivered simultaneously into the mixing hopper and the conveying air continually dries the mixt. The final manure prod. is remarkably dry and powdery. It is free from offensive odours and is ready for bagging or bulk storage.
