Abstract

The device is used as a pipe clamp assembly in nuclear power stations, and releases pipes for small relative movements, e.g. due to expansion, while locking them when subject to large movements over a thresholdvalue. It consists of a cylinder with axial extension tube (2) with grooves walls (3), leading to the pipe clamp. There is a central threaded rod (7) connected to the fixed pipe-anchor. The other end is embedded in a block (10) which runs in the grooves (3) and prevents rotation. The main body of the cylinder contains a bush, threaded to fit the rod (7) and free to turn slowly on ball bearings (16) at each end. Leaf springs control the rate by pressing against the bearing races.
