Abstract

A furnace for the heat treatment and/or burning of moulds for the casting of artistic objects has the hearth outside the reverberatory chamber. The two are separated with the burners positioned possibly beneath the movable base of the chamber. It has generally the form of a parallelepiped and the dimensios of the chamber are variable within limits as required. The walls are displaceable relatively to each other and the vaulted roof, in two main sections can be lifted and lowered, as well as opened out horizontally. The space between the halves of the roof is closed constantly by a key extending the full length of the vaulted sections and resting freely on them. The reverberatory chamber of the furnace can be adjusted to suit the volume of the pieces to be treated so that a continuous dismantling and rebuilding of the kiln to suit different moulds is unnecessary.
