Abstract

The device absorbs the energy expended during vehicle braking and comprises elastic elements which cooperate with a transmission assembly. A rack (2) engages a pinion (3) and has end stops (6, 7). The rack cooperates with the springs (11) and with a stop (15) subject to a vertical movement by a reversing device (17). The transmission pref. comprises two sections mounted between a drive shaft and the shaft on which is mounted the pinion. One suction comprises a gear mounted on the drive shaft and a further gear mounted on the pinion shaft. The other section comprises a gear on the drive shaft, an idler gear and a spur gear cooperating with a sleeve slidable on the pinion shaft. The sleeve is actuated by the reversing device and is locked by a pawl.
