Abstract

970,427. Toothed gearing. G. A. MARGOLD. Jan. 25, 1962 [July 28, 1961], No. 2923/62. Heading F2Q. [Also in Division A6] A mechanism for toys whereby a drive means is selectively coupled to either of two shafts comprises a displaceable intermediate shaft which in one extreme position of movement causes a gear-wheel secured thereto to engage with a fixed gear-wheel to rotate one shaft and which in the other extreme position is adapted to drive through an axially fixed but freely rotatable gear the second shaft. An electric motor 5 drives, through suitable gearing, a gearwheel 11 on the displaceable shaft 12. In one position of the shaft 12, a pinion 14 thereon drives, through a gear-wheel 31, freely rotatable on the shaft 22, a pinion 32 on the rear axle 33 of a vehicle. In the second position, the pinion 14 drives a gear-wheel 24 fixed to the shaft 22. The shaft 22, through pinion 25 and gear-wheel 27, drives a crank arm 29 on a part 30 of the vehicle. The displacement of the shaft 12 is effected by means of a Bowden cable 19 which rotates an actuating plate 17 engaging slots in side plates 3, 4 against the action of a return spring 18, which holds the shaft in one position, to move a fork-shaped flap 16 engaging the hub of the gear-wheel 11 to cause a spring 15 between the flap and pinion 14 to displace the shaft 12 so that the pinion 14 is displaced from the gearwheel 31 and engages gear-wheel 24 to driveshaft 22. The axle supports a cam which intermittently makes contact with a spot light connection.
