Abstract

The system is applicable to engines having one or several cylinders equipped with sparking plugs. The ignition system uses a means which is designed to project a gaseous jet across each spark plug electrode when a spark producing voltage is applied to the sparking plug. The gaseous fit is formed from the products of combustion of the engine. The system also uses a gas accumulator which is connected to the gas projection means. The gas accumulator discharges the combustion products so that the gas jet can be formed. The accumulator is a pressurised reservoir. The reservoir connects orifices in a first and second engine combustion chamber. The orifices are designed to project gas across the spark plug in each chamber.
