Abstract

The small water treatment unit comprises a renewable cartridge contg., e.g. softening, adsorption and filtration elements. A tubular extension is coupled to the outlet orifice and the cartridge of annular cross-section slides coaxially on to the extension. Flow passages are provided so that supply water can flow from the extension into the fitted cartridge and treated water returns from the cartridge to the extension. The unit can pref. be switched instantly from passing supply water through the cartridge to passing supply water, untreated, directly to the outlet of the extension and vice versa. The cartridge can pref. be renewed without uncoupling the extension from the supply outlet orifice, removal of the cartridge being associated with automatic closure of a valve on the extension outlet.
