Abstract

Installing elastic seals between the two halves of a street lamp housing comprises injecting a foam-forming compsn. into a channel or step on one half of the housing for locating the rim of the other half. Can be up to 30% faster on assembly than seals fitted from cut lengths of continuous prefabricated elastic seal profile. The start and finish of the seals formed in situ blend prior to setting, avoiding any discontinuous interface which can readily leak. Mor adaptable to various lamp shapes and size than prefabricated continuous or closed loop seals. The seal forming compsn. is a soft polyurethane foam offering good resistance to uv light, heat or chemicals.
