Abstract

Fabrics are processed with steam for bulking, shrinking creping, relaxing, etc., by immersing the fabric in an atmosphere of saturated steam, and allowing it to remain there for a definite period under this condition, so that it is completely relieved of tension. Depending upon requirements the atmosphere for the fabric is of saturated wet steam, saturated dry steam, or saturated hot steam, the goods being moved possibly from an atmosphere of saturated wet or dry steam into one or hot steam, whilst according to the character of the fabric, the operating pressure may be equal to or higher than that of the atmosphere. Achieves the desired improvement in bulk, in tenacity and other chacteristics which may have been diminished by printing or dyeing processes, without complicated plant using large amounts of water and energy, in less time.
