Abstract

The air/water tight joint consists of a thin metal strip (1) fastened to the edge of either the fixed or opening frame and cooperating with the rabbet on either frame to give a perfectly air/water-tight finish. Parallel to the edge (7) of the metal strip (1) and set back a little from it, is a groove (2) which engages with another groove (4) made in the woodwork (3). Corrugations staggered at irregular intervals (5-6) are made on the horizontal and parallel lines of the script (1). The grooves improve the air/water-tightness of the joint and also accommodate the clips used to attach the strip to the wood, while the corrugations give the joint the required rigidity while at the same time retaining a certain amoung of elasticity.
