Abstract
Sealed joint for feeding a metal wire, possessing a predetermined and uniform cross-section, through a wall sepg. regions under different pressures, using a tube sealed in the wall; the tube contains two elements in the form of dies, each in a holder, and each die is made in a hard, rigid material with a hole provided with play and through which the wire travels; each hole is curved along its axis forming a converging inlet and a diverging outlet, with a min. dia. between inlet and outlet. The novelty is that means are provided for pumping air out of the tube, and an internal wire guide is located near one of the die holders, the guide possessing a conical bore tapering towards the die holder. Used e.g. for the continuous travel of a wire through an evacuated zone for treatment or coating, the sealed joints preventing air entering the evacuated zone.
