Abstract

Composite lid for containers, bottles, jars etc. is a metal disc (1) with a sealing ring (3) fitted inside it and a surrounding skirt (1c). The edge of the skirt is turned over to form a rim (1d). A number of inward protrusions (1e) are formed round the periphery, these fitting under a rim on the neck of the jar (B, R). A plastics ring (2) covers the outer edge of the metal lid. Its skirt provides a location (2d) for the metal rim (1d). A semicircular cross-section ring (2a) presses against the top surface of the metal disc and is attached to the surrounding plastics ring in only a few places. The composite lid is fitted in the normal fashion. The outer plastics skirt (2c) prevents entry of dirt because of section when opening the jar. Opening the jar requires the skirt to be raised, breaking the local plastic connection between outer and inner plastic rings.
