Abstract

A flat cap which has a skirt by which it snaps on to a jar and a second peripheral skirt which is attached to the cap only by narrow tongues of material, and which breaks off at the first attempt to remove the cap from the jar, thus reducing the cap to its operative condition. The tongues joining the outer skirt to the cap are horizontal, i.e. in the plane of the cap itself. Pref. the cap is circular and the surrounding skirt a circular ring which has a downward flange and is joined to the cap by uniformly spaced thin spokes; the cap is wider than the neck of the jar it closes and has, on its inner skirt, a ridge of semicircular section which snaps into a groove of semicircular section in the neck of the jar. The skirted cap is pref. made in thermoplastic, e.g. polypropylene or high-density polythene.
