Abstract
Plant, for the sepn. of settled material and light liqs. from waste water and sewage, comprises a sludge collector and a separator for the light liqs; they form a compact installation in a common housing, with a cover. The water to be purified arrives at the inlet; material which settles out is deposited in the collector whilst the liq. passes over the overflow and under the partition into the separator. Here the associated light materials, such as oil, petrol, fats, etc. float to the surface while the water passes under the partition to the outlet. when the sepd. materials pile up sufficiently to be evacuated, a pump is brought into action; the light liqs. are withdrawn through one pipe and the sludge by another pipe. The layer of floating material is first broken up by the prodn. of a powerful, horizontal jet by the injector, making use of recycled water. After the evacuation, the collector and the separator are washed by water. The sepd. materials do not need to be evacuated by hand but can be sucked out by a pump when necessary or at regular intervals; this can be followed by a complementary washing.
