Abstract

A first liquid is mixed with an added ingredient in the form of a solid material or a second liquid of different density. A constant vol. of mixture is maintained in a vessel into which the rate of flow of the first liquid is regulated by a vessel level control. The ingredient is added continuously and thoroughly mixed into the first liquid, the charged vessel being weighed continuously to give a measure of the density of the mixture which is used to regulate the rate of feed of the ingredient and thereby adjust the density automatically to a control value. Mixing is pref. effected by pumping the first liquid into the vessel via submerged ejector tube mixers. Final mixture can be drawn off from the vessel by a pump of which the delivery rate can be adjusted to suit mixing the either by means of throtting or by an adjustable speed drive. The density is accurately controlled, i.e. to within 0.1 % accuracy, before the ingredient is fully mixed in and before a solids ingredient is dissolved. No need to wait until mixture is drawn off to check density.
