Abstract

Textile piece goods, esp. knitted fabrics of synthetic fibres are printed by a transfer process in which the goods are brought into contact with the band carrying the dyestuffs, whilst heat is applied, between moving pressing surfaces formed by an endless blanket conveyor travelling round a number of guide rollers,and a heated cylinder. The blanket is driven by a roller positioned at the inlet of the pressing zone and equipped with a friction clutch. The angular velocity of the driving member of the clutch, having regard to the dia. ratio, is somewhat higher than that of the heated cylinder, and the frictional moment of the clutch is set so that it is equal to the moment arising as the sum of all tensile forces set up by friction on the blanket, outside the pressing zone. The heated cylinder and the clutch afe driven by a variable speed motor through a chain transmission. The application is not restricted to transfer printing but suits any similar process in which a blanket runs with the goods. It is easy to adjust the speeds of the blanket and drum if necessary, and the flattening and smoothing effects caused by excessive pressure on the fabrics are ruled out, which is of partic. benefit in the processing of knitted fabrics of textured yarns.
