Abstract

The cathode oxide coating material contains 1-20 mole % BaO, 30-50 mole % SrO and 40-65 mole % CaO. The coated anodes are used e.g. in amplifier and transmitting tubes. Volatilisation of the oxide coating material is greatly reduced, whilst a high emissivity is retained, i.e. a low work function is ensured, by the use of more CaO, much less BaO and less SrO than usual. The volatility is 0.08-0.2 units at 1050K, i.e. 5-12 times less than usual, whilst the work function remains at 1.50-1.65 eV. The drop in emission is only 20-35% in 5000 h operation (cf. ca 50% for the usual material contg. equimolar amts. of BaO and SrO and up to 13 mole % CaO).
