Abstract
Tubes of a heat exchanger are fixed to the end plates by hydraulically expanding the tube sections which are located inside the end tube plate holes. This expansion process indces tensile stresses in tubes which are attached to fixed end plates. To reduce this stress, part of the expanded tube section is stretched by an internal rolling process. Since the stresses which are produced when the heat exchanger is operating can be calculated, the stretching of the expanded section can be such that uniform minimal stress conditions are obtained.
