Abstract

Pipe elbows are made by bending a pipe blank with a ram pair with curved apertures which are complementary and by pressure treatment of the blank radially relative to its long axis, with a pressure treatment on two sides by another pair of rams with planar working faces, so that the cross section becomes oval. The blank is held between stops during bending, as a pair lying at both sides of the major axis of the oval cross section. The rams with curved apertures, for radial pressure treatment of the blank are applied to it and displaced along the major axis of the cross section, and bending is simultaneously performed. The end form is attained by one or at most two, strokes of a simply acting press.
