Abstract

The tarpaulin cover of the lorry, or any open vehicle, is stretched over a set of inverted hoops (14) arranged in staggered sizes. The outer hoop is rigidly fixed to the body of the vehicle while the inner ones rest with their footings (30) on rollers (34) inside parallel grooves (32) along the side of the lorry. The inner, smallest (14N) hoop is coupled to a servo motor drive (48) by means of which the whole system is operated. The individual hoops are linked together by horizontal bars with stops to limit the relative movement between the hoops. The whole cover is then remotely controlled, without any manual effort.
