Abstract

A material for thermal and sound insulation is mfd. from a foamed mixt. consisting of water with >=1 surfactant and plaster; the foamed mixt. is cast, allowed to set, and dried. Pref. the water is mixed with the surfactant(s) to make a foam which is then used to wet the plaster; alternatively, all the constituents can be mixed together to make the foam. After setting an drying, the solid foamed material has a density of 0.03-0.95, and a thermal conductivity of 0.2-0.02. The material may be cast in the form of plates, panels or tiles and the plaster used is calcium- and/or barium-sulphate. Additives may be included such as styrene emulsions; styrene copolymers; acrylic or vinyl resins; alkyd resins; cellulose resins; and retarders or accelerators to alter the setting times.
