Abstract
Natural circulation continuous evaporation is done with improved heat transfer. The liquid is brought to boiling point before it enters the heating tubes by injecting open steam. This operation is performed at a higher hydrostatic pressure than at the tube inlet. Especially in vacuum evaporators for heat sensitive materials. Usually the heating of the liquid occurs in the lower part of the tubes where the liquid is moving slowly and heat transfer coefficients are correspondingly low. Boiling is inhibited by the hydrostatic pressure of the liquid in the tube. The method cited here performs most of the heating with open steam so that the tube heater can be much smaller than usual or can work at much higher capacity.
