Abstract

The electric traction vehicle is fitted with a single pedal to control both drive and braking. When the pedal is pressed a relay connects the DC motor to the battery. If the pedal is lifted then the field windings of the motor are reversed and the electric energy generated in the motor is fed back into the battery to recover some of the energy and to provide some regenerative braking. The current flows are regulated by simple diodes and the relay is coupled to the drive pedal by a single connection. The system is ideally suited for fork lift trucks etc. and leaves the driver to control other attachments with his other foot.
