Abstract

Forming press for sheet metal or ceramic material is constructed as a sound attenuated unit in which the tools belonging to the press carriage may be encapsulated, and the total noise generated in the press is reduced by driving the press carriage, by cams which are in contact with cam followers during the entire work cycle of the press carriage, i.e. to give a power stroke and a return stroke during one cam shaft revolution. The press carriage (99) is mounted on the top of vertical tension rods (101) which in turn are mounted in a support construction (111) for axial reciprocating movement. A tension rod carriage (85) connected to tension rods (101) is driven by one or more cam followers (55, 57) which drive the tension rods. A servo motor worm drive moves a bolt and nut arrangement to alter the position of the tension rod carriage w.r.t. the cam housing.
