Abstract

The dust-laden gas is blown circumferentially into a cylinder (5) which stands on top of an inverted cone (3). The mixture spirals down the side of the cone. Under centrifugal action, the solid particles slide down to the bottom, where a receptacle (4) is placed for them, while the cleaned gas passes back up again along the axis of the cone, and out through a tube at the top. In this procedure a layer of slow-moving dusty gas is formed next to the outer surface of the exit tube (7) particles tend to fall from it comparatively close to the axis of the cone, and to contaminate the cleaned gas rising nearby. Consequently the slow-moving layer is shifted by a jet of air fed through a side entry T-junction.
