Abstract

The printing element is a spring member moving in two degrees of freedom and can be deflected vertically to the line of print by a deflecting coil. It is also driven in the direction of the recording medium by a printing hammer vibrating at a constant amplitude. The printing element and printing hammer make up a spring-mass oscillator whose natural frequency in the direction of the recording medium is approximate to the printing frequency. The printing element can be a leaf spring with a point and the printing hammer can be excited by an exciting coil. The hammer can consist of leaf springs gripped at one end.
