Abstract

1,123,188. Selective printing. XEROX CORP. 15 Sept., 1965 [23 Sept., 1964], No. 39492/65. Heading B6F. [Also in Division H4] Ink issuing from a nozzle 12 under pressure from a source 13 is caused to break up into uniform droplets 22 by vibrating the nozzle by an ultrasonic, e.g. 30 kc/s., piezo-electric crystal 17 energized by a source 16, the droplets passing through a cylindrical electrode 23 where they are either charged in accordance with coded character signals from a source 25, and thereafter passing between deflection electrodes 27 and 28, which are maintained at a fixed potential difference, whereby, in accordance with the state of charge, they either impact against a record sheet 40 or pass to a reservoir 36 whence they return to the nozzle by way of pump 37, valve 39 and reservoir 11.
