Abstract

A TM-743 strain of Bacillus is cultured under aerobic conditions to produce an antibiotic with growth-inhibiting action against various kinds of microorganisms, such as gram-positive and gram-negative organisms, as well as fungi, which is extracted and purified. In an example, when a TM-743 strain of Bacillus circulans is used, the cultivation may be carried out in a conventional fermentation manner using a culture medium which contains glucose, starch, clycein, nitrogen sources (e.g. peptone, meat extract, yeast extract), urea, nitrates, ammonium salts, etc., and if reqd., sodium chloride, calcium carbonate, vitamins and defoaming agents, at pH 7-7.4.
