Abstract
1,140,872. 6-Demethyl tetracyclines. ANKERFARM S.p.A. 11 Feb., 1966 [11 Feb., 1965], No. 34040/68. Divided out of 1,140,871. Heading C2A. 6-Demethyl tetracycline and/or 6-demethyl-7- chlorotetracycline is produced by cultivating Streptomyces sp. mutant strain D84 (C.B.S. 322À67) in an aqueous nutrient medium containing assimilable sources of nitrogen, carbon, growth factors, alkaline earth metal carbonate and mineral salts under aerobic conditions. Chrysalid meal may be used as a source of protein nitrogen and growth factors. Strontium carbonate is the preferred alkaline earth metal carbonate. Mycelial fermentation residues may be added as the source of nitrogen and growth factors. Potassium dihydrogen phosphate may be added as an activator of carbohydrate metabolism. The pH is 6À0 to 7À0 and the temperature of cultivation 22 to 34‹ C. Zea mays extract may also be present in the nutrient medium. The antibiotics are recovered from the fermentation broth by conventional methods.
