Abstract
1,140,871. Tetracycline. ANKERFARM S.p.A. 11 Feb., 1966 [11 Feb., 1965], No. 6174/66. Heading C2A. Tetracycline is produced by culturing mutant strain Streptomyces sp. T. 2369 (CBS 321-67) in an aqueous nutrient medium containing an assimilable source of nitrogen and growth factors, an assimilable source of carbon, an alkaline earth metal carbonate and mineral salts under aerobic conditions. Preferably an aqueous extract of fresh or ensiled Zea mays is used as a source of protein nitrogen and growth factors. Strontium carbonate is the preferred source of alkaline earth metal carbonate. Mycelial fermentation residues may be added as a source of nitrogen and growth factors. Potassium dihydrogen phosphate may be added as an activator of carbohydrate metabolism. The nutrient medium has a pH of 6À0 to 7À0 and the temperature of fermentation is 22 to 34‹ C.
