Abstract

Apparatus for cutting up a large number of long tree trunks, where the trunks are loaded on a trailer with a row of uprights along each side of the chassis to hold the trunks in a compact rectangular mass, includes a gantry travelling on rails each side of the trailer, carrying a band saw which is lowered by chains each side, to cut all the logs in one downward movement. A number of such cuts are made as the gantry travels along over the trailer so that the trunks are cut into short lengths. The band saw is supported between vertical end members, deep enough to hold also a separator plate mounted above the band saw, spanning the trailer.
