Abstract
Foundry moulds ar cooled by transferring heat from a hot zone to a colder zone by >=1 evaporative cooler, ('caloduc'), i.e. a closed chamber in whch a fluid circulates between an evaporator and a condenser. The evaporative cooler(s) are pref. linked to a principal evapn. cooler carrying the heat away to the exterior of the mould, and the surface of heat exchange can pref. be varied by feeding in a non-condensable gas, esp. Ar, N2 or He-Ar. The main evapn. cooler is pref. located near to a cooling circuit and all the coolers are pref. used in a mould, a die, or a core; the pref. fluids are Hg, Cs, K, Na or their mixt., or water, alcohol or ammonia. Process is esp. used in pressure die casting dies, or moulds used for glass or plastics. Better removal of heat from the surface of the mould, die or core is obtd.
