Abstract

A water cooler esp. for the condensing systems of stills used in the distn. of white wine of Charenite, i.e., of the type in which a condensing coil carries vapour to be condensed through a vessel contg. cooling water. The cooling water is piped from the vessel in a closed circuit leading via a cooling heat-exchanger back to the vessel, circulation pref. being assisted by a pump in the circuit. Pref. the cooling fluid used in the cooling heat exchanger is itself recycled via a sec. heat exchanger for re-cooling; the cooling water circuit via the first heat exchanger pref. comprises a flow regulating valve. The cooling water being contained in a closed circuit does not freeze up in cold weather as can be the problem with open cooling ponds; in partic. hot weather, it is possible to obtain sufficient cooling capacity by boosting the cooling function of the heat exchanger, e.g., with a more powerful, sec. heat exchanger, water usage is reduced.
