Abstract
High-tensile, naturally-hard steel for concrete reinforcement, esp. to BSt 42/50 or BSt 50/55 of German specification DIN 488, has compsn. 0.24-0.33% C, 0.8-1.4% Mn, 0.3-0.6% Si, 0.03-0.06% V, Nb and/or Ti, 0.3-0.8% Cu, the remainder being Fe and the usual impurities. The steel pref. has a carbon content of 0.24-0.29% and the pref. element chosen from the group V, Nb, Ti, Cu, is V. In reinforcing concrete these steels have both good forming properties and an adequate resistance to fatigue strength, while being less costly than steels with a carbon content below 0.20%.
