Abstract

The parent patent described a process for conditioning radioactive waste by incorporating the latter in powder form into a room temp. polymerisable resin and copolymerising the latter with a monomer to form a solid block. In the patent of addn. the radioactive waste comprises radioactive elements fixed into an ion exchange resin which has been used for purifying contaminated waters and/or radioactive elements incorporated into filtration and/or flocculation adjuvants (I). The process allows storage of ion exchange resin used, e.g. in purifying cell waters, and contg. radioactive elements, the radioactivity of the resin is also retained during storage. The ion exchange resin may be anionic (IRN 78, RTM) cationic (IRN 77, RTM) and it may be mixed with an equal amt. of a polymerisable resin e.g. an unsatd. polyester or an epoxy resin. (I) may be diatomaceous earth, cellulose or perlite. The polymerisable resin pref. contains a catalyst, e.g. MEK peroxide, and an accelerator, e.g. Co naphthenate.
