Abstract

The closing gate rotates eccentrically and operates in conjunction with a circular internal seating. The two spherical segments are parallel to the plane of the seating in the closed position. The operating mechanism consists of a rod that is fixed through the closing gate at right angles to it. The further the axis of rotation is from the seating the greater the distance of the plane of the sphere in the closed position. The aperture for the fluid in the open position is circular. The seating is made from hard material with a flexible elastic or plastic surface. Alternative designs show the operating rod fitted into recesses in the sphere, a hemispherical shaped gate, and trapeze shaped grooves cut in the side of the valve housing.
