Abstract
The aircraft fuselage (1) is surmounted by jet engines (2) with normal jet exhaust pipes (3). Over the engines is a vertical duct (4) into which the gases can be deflected so as to drive a rotor whose blades (6) can be retracted into a support (5) when not in use. Holes (15) around the edge of the support allow the exhaust gases to escape. A small low wing (7) with large ailerons for stability in fixed wing flight and transition is fitted to the fuselage. A casing (8) on the upper surface of the fuselage contains controls, electrical and oil systems, etc. The machine can land and take off vertically, obviating the need for an elaborate undercarriage. No tail rotor is required as the main rotor drive does not transmit torque to the fuselage.
