Abstract

Title cpds. (I) are prepd. by reacting cpd. (II) with C1-CO-R1, (III), (where R = opt. branched alkyl (1-4C), cyclohexyl, phenyl, 4-fluorophenyl, 4-chlorophenyl or 4-methoxyphenyl; R1 = alpha-pyridyl, beta-pyridyl or chi-pyridyl) in org, medium such as dichloroethane in the presence of a Lewis acid, esp. AlCl3, NIII) is pref. prepd. by reacting the corresp. Na-salt with POC13, white heating. (II) is then added without isolating or purificn. of (III) and reacted at pref. 20-40 degrees C. The prod. is hydrolysed at ambient temp. (I) are known cpds. with anti-inflammatory and fibrinolytic activity. (I) is pref. 2-isopropylindoyl-3(pyridyl-3)ketone, which has little toxicity and 1/80 of the ulcerogenic activity of known indomethacine. The process gives yields of 80%. It is simple, economical and uses less hazardous matls. than known methods.
