Abstract

The craft may be used for crane carrying of for cable or pipe laying. It is important to achieve good stability of these craft in any kind of seaway. In order to achieve this, two ballast weights (4) are fixed on the inside of the hull near the waterline. The ballast weights are located as high as practicable above the centre of gravity of the hull. On each side of the hull is a ballast chamber (5) with associated pumping systems so that the centre of gravity of the craft may be moved vertically. This design enables the use of hull shapes similar to ships being used and operation in comparatively rougher weather.
