Abstract

Thermally insulating composite wall structure capable of forming all or part of the walls of sealed insulated reservoirs, particularly of the type intended to receive liquefied petroleum gases at a temperature around -50 degrees C, comprising (i) an external rigid or self-supporting wall, generally of metal and optionally constituted in the case of a reservoir of the integrated vessel type, by a part of a fixed or mobile installation such as a marine tanker, (ii) a thick body, fixed directly or indirectly to the external wall and consisting of a thermally insulating material, particularly a rigid, expanded or cellular synthetic resin and (iii) a thin internal sheet on the opposite side of the cellular body to the external wall, forming a sealing barrier and bonded, pref. by adhesion to the body. Provides a low cost, but highly insulating wall structure particularly suitable for liquefied gases at moderately low temperature.
