Abstract

The valve is attached by one opening to a high pressure supply which presses a slide against a seat, holding the valve closed. The valve is operated by removing a safety device and pushing a knob inwards. A pin ruptures a membrane and permits the supply pressure to be transmitted via a channel and passages to a chamber above a piston. Because of the relative dimensions of the components, the resultant forces cause the piston to move downward, opening the valve. The valve can be used with a hydraulic or pneumatic control pressure to rupture the membrane. An opening at the top of the valve means that more than one valve can be operated by one control action.
