Abstract

The ships are joined by a pair of beams (23) which spans the distance between the main decks of the two ships. Each beam is fixed to one ship at a flexible joint (8a, 8b). The flexibility is in two planes. The fixing brackets on the other deck also allows the beams to slide so that the decks may move closer together or further apart. The two parallel beams carry a cradle (18) which supports the load to be transferred from one ship to the other. All movements are effected with rollers to reduce friction. The beams are stowed along the deck of the one ship.
