Abstract

Double sleeve coupling for enclosing an expansion joint between two conduits for circulating hot gases, has a concentric joint surrounded by an inner sleeve and by an outer sleeve of sufficiently greater diameter to be mounted with out mutual contact between the steeves. The inner sleeve is protected from abrasion by a porous metal cover. The outer and/or both sleeves should be impermeable to the hot fluid. The coupling is used for pipe or dust systems conveying combustion fuels or exhaust gases or smoke at fairly high velocities, moderate super-atmospheric pressures and temps. up to 1000 degrees C. The air gap between the concentric sleeves partially insulates the outer sleeve, allowing the higher gas temperatures to be used. Outer sleeves may be replaced without disturbing the inner sleeve.
