Abstract

The couch used in a railway carriage compartment is folded flat against the vertical wall when not in use. The couch is brought smoothly, without sudden impact, into the horizontal position without excessive effort. The couch folding section has a sliding pin which slides smoothly in the vertical track held on the compartment wall. This guide track is slightly tilted and it has on its upper end a curved part for locking the sliding pin into the horizontal position. A supporting strap is provided which is pivoted at its lower end at a point on the end transverse member of the couch which connects the longitudinal members. The upper end of this strap is pivoted at a point above the sliding guide track on the compartment wall.
