Abstract

Ski with the undersurface divided into three zones with leading and trailing zones made of low friction material and the central zone of a material which offers good friction suitable for climbing hillsides. Composite surface offers ease of movement and turning on flat and downhill terrain with adequate grip for climbing or for movement on frozen snow. Pref. the sole may be a prefabricated full length assembly fitted to the underside of the ski body, or may be made as inserts of low friction material set in a stepped core of high friction material, or vice versa. Surface of the central zone may have a sand blasted or flock covered surface. The low friction components is pref. polyethylene polyurethane, PTFE or nylon.
